Supeman’s guest-starring turn on THE BATMAN concludes with Part 2 of “The Batman/Superman Episode.”

As Part 1 ended, Lex Luthor had taken control of The Man of Steel thanks Poison Ivy and a little bit of Kryptonite. So why didn’t Lex simply whack his arch-enemy? Because he wants to use him as his own personal weapon to aid him in his goal of world domination.

Consequently, it’s up to The Batman to stop Lex -- and Superman as well.

Remember a few years ago a movie titled SUPERMAN VS. BATMAN was almost made? Obviously, the basic plot of this film had Superman and Batman battling it out -- and that’s exactly what you get for a good part of this episode.

If you are a big fan of DC Universe in general, then you’ll probably enjoy this episode quite a bit. To be honest, it is sort of cool seeing these two exchanging blows -- and watching The Batman kick some Super-ass. On the other hand, if you prefer episodes that feature The Batman taking on members of his rogues gallery in Gotham, you’ll probably find “The Batman/Superman Episode” a mixed bag.

The storyline was pretty good, although predictable and rather cliché. You know, bad guy wants to take over the world. Bad guy takes control of one of the heroes. The two heroes clash. The two heroes then team-up to defeat the bad guy.

Still, THE BATMAN is a well-produced show with top-notch animation. As I said in my previous issue, I liked the look of Superman, who had a Reeve/Routh vibe to him. His characterization also was drawn from the “Donner,” if you will, depiction of Superman ala SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE and SUPERMAN RETURNS. In fact, I believe I even heard a riff from John Williams’ classic Superman theme a couple of times.

All in all, not too bad. This is supposed to be a season of team-ups on THE BATMAN. So if that’s the case, there’s no way better to kick it off than to pair up “The World’s Finest.”
