Cinematographer Greig Fraser Talks THE BATMAN

Here’s what THE BATMAN‘s cinematographer Greig Fraser had to say about the film during an interview with COLLIDER

On how “dark” the film would be…

It’s a good question and one in which we asked ourselves. There’s darkness in the character, for sure, and we need to create a ‘mood’ — which is obvious, it’s a Batman film. So, I don’t think it’s going to be oppressively dark…visually because that’s not what we’re trying to do — we aren’t trying to have a competition about who can go the darkest of the darkest of the darkest. We’re trying to create intrigue — I love the way some of the comics look, the graphic novels, and you can see relatively quite clearly [darkness] in those.

On THE BATMAN in general and how director Matt Reeves is “gutsy”…

It’s a character-based movie about the characters, about Andy Serkis’ character [Alfred Pennyworth], Rob Pattinson’s character [Bruce Wayne/Batman], it’s a very, very good script — like all of Matt [Reeves]’s scripts it’s very good, it’s very well-thought-out, and we’re having a ball making it. We’re doing our best, you know…it’s a lot of pressure! It’s Batman…Matt’s a gutsy director!
