THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER has posted a story that updates the status of the upcoming SUPERMAN reboot at Warner Bros., but the plans for DC on film going forward. Here’re the highlights…

- The SUPERMAN reboot will feature Kal El of Krypton — no word on whether his “human” alter-ego is Clark Kent, however (I’m betting he will not be CK).
- Ta-Nehisi Coats’ screenplay likely won’t be turned in to WB until December 2021.
- While J.J. Abrams is producing, he will not direct, and the person tapped for the job will likely be Black (Regina King?).
- The next cinematic Superman will likely be an unknown in the same vein as SUPERMAN RETURNS‘ Brandon Routh and SUPERMAN‘s Christopher Reeve (and I guess you could say the Henry Cavill was “relatively unknown” when he was cast for MAN OF STEEL).
- The article reiterates that ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE is the “last hurrah” for the “Snyderverse” and little will remain of it with DC on film other than Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), and Ezra Miller (The Flash).
- THE FLASH — which just began filming last month — is a reset for DC on film. It will set up a multiverse which will allow for story universes to co-exist and have each’s respective superheroes interact. (Though it’s not mentioned in the article, Michael Keaton’s older Bruce Wayne will become the Batman of the “shared” DC movie universes.)
- THE BATMAN and its HBO Max GCPD spinoff will be its own thing and not part of a “shared” universe. The same goes for a potential sequel to JOKER and the aforementioned SUPERMAN reboot.
