Bat-Timeline – “Batman in 1964”

PREVIOUS:Batman in 1963

FEBRUARY: Batman is “killed and becomes a “ghost” in WORLD’S FINEST COMICS #139.

MAY: BATMAN #163 was the last issue featuring the “Old Look Batman” before his aesthetic revamp. In one, Alfred again penned an imaginary story where Bat-Girl grew up to become Batwoman II and fell in love with Dick Grayson, who was now Batman II. In the cover story, The Joker captured Batman and Robin and put them on trial with The Joker himself serving as judge.

MAY: Batman’s “New Look” premiered in DETECTIVE COMICS #327. The bat on Batman’s chest now was surrounded by a yellow oval and Batman was drawn much slimmer than he had been since the early 1940s.

JUNE: Alfred is killed off – albeit temporarily – in DETECTIVE COMICS #328. Dick Grayon’s Aunt Harriett came to live in Wayne Manor and take Alfred’s place.

JUNE: The “New Look Batman” is featured for the first time in BATMAN in issue #164. Also, a new sleeker Batmobile made its debut.

AUGUST: Batman’s evil doppelganger, Owlman from Earth-3, shows up along with the rest of the Crime Syndicate of America in JUSTICE LEAGUE #29.
