Michael Keaton on BATGIRL Getting Axed: “I Didn’t Care One Way or Another”

As we all know, the BATGIRL movie — which would’ve seen the return of Michael Keaton as Batman again following THE FLASH — was infamously shelved by Warner Bros. Discovery in late 2022 for tax purposes.

So, what did MK think about it? Well, the answer may surprise you, but it shouldn’t.  Here’s what he told GQ in a recent interview when asked if he was disappointed: “No, I didn’t care one way or another. Big, fun, nice check (GQ adds that Keaton was also “rubbing his fingers together in the universal gesture for ‘moolah.’”)

As I said at the time 2 years ago when BATGIRL got shitcanned, Keaton is 70 years old, got paid, and probably couldn’t care less…and apparently, I’m right.  He added, “I like those boys (directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. They’re nice guys.  I pull for them. I want them to succeed, and I think they felt very badly, and that made me feel bad. Me? I’m good.”

If you’re butthurt about this, you shouldn’t be.  Yes, we love Michael Keaton as Batman, but we’re also talking about a guy who (allegedly) has never seen either of his Batman films from start to finish.  He’s also never seen any of the other Batman movies other than bits and pieces when they’ve been shown on TV.  Frankly, he’s not a Batman fan, which isn’t a requirement to play Batman anyway.  Robert Pattinson and Ben Affleck (both Batman fans) are the exception.

Personally, I’m just glad I got to see him one more time as Batman in THE FLASH regardless of how people think of it or how it did at the box office. – Bill “Jett” Ramey
