Via the Marvelvision Podcast by way of WorldOfReel.com, the latter revealed a “scoop” about the next HBO series which will be part of THE BATMAN SAGA. Disclosure: I know nothing about this podcast, but I do know and trust World Of Reel.
According to one of the podcast’s hosts, the series will follow THE BATMAN: PART II and be the bridge into THE BATMAN: PART III — just like THE PENGUIN in between THE BATMAN and PART II. And here’s the kicker: Apparently Barry Keoghan will return as The Joker (or “Unamed Arkham Inmate”) in it and then be the main villain for PART III.
I reached out to a few folks with a couple having no idea and a few saying that they had heard it’s true. So that’s all I have in terms of confirmation or calling BS on it. We do know that Matt Reeves and his team are working on another HBO series (or two) that’s part of THE BATMAN SAGA and here’s what he recently said about that…
Yeah. We have been talking, and it’s exciting because people are now embracing the show. My fantasy is coming into being, which is very exciting, and HBO has been incredibly supportive from the beginning. Now to see that the show is being embraced is really, really exciting. We have been talking about doing other shows. I wanted to make sure that we didn’t do the origin tale, which so many of the other series have done. I think the idea of being able to put a lens on these characters is a really exciting idea. It’s about cities and their dysfunction and the world and its dysfunction, which is what Batman stories are all about. They’re all about Gotham being a place that should be better. And you can have the experience of this almost novelistic epic crime saga, but you also just get these separate experiences. They have their own dramatic value. So Oz’s story is Oz’s story, and the idea is to do these other stories in the same way.
I am one of those Batman fans who prefers to know as little about The Joker’s background and origin as possible. So I’m not sure what I think about an entire series ala THE PENGUIN centered around him. I’m also a bit leery about overdoing it with the character in the wake of JOKER: FOLIE a DEUX bombing– even though the 2 have nothing to do witch each other. To note, the “scooper” said he wasn’t sure if it was a Joker series or if was a series in which The Joker would appear in. That I’d probably prefer.
With all that said, I trust Matt Reeves and co. totally and if they’ve got an idea and it involves The Joker, I’m onboard. Just make sure Lauren LeFranc is part of it! – Bill “Jett” Ramey
