*Sigh* No, Matt Reeves Isn’t Leaving THE BATMAN 2 and Yes, He’s Directing

Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson on the set of THE BATMAN

If you’re a longtime BOF’er, you know that I’m very anti-clickbait of any kind and thus, you don’t see any on this website.  If there’s nothing to report or discuss about THE BATMAN: PART II (or any other Batman project), we won’t make stuff up simply for website clicks and traffic.  Frankly, that’s what’s great about owning your website and not having to crank out bullshit daily.  ANYWAY…

I wasn’t going to formally address the latest rumor about the status of THE BATMAN: PART II — namely, about writer/director/producer — that spread like wildfire last week.  But I figured that BOF should say something because I got a lot of emails and questions via social media about it.  SO…

Like the headline says, no, Matt Reeves isn’t leaving THE BATMAN: PART II, and yes, he will direct the film.

Period.

This all started when PRODUCTION WEEKLY — which is a legit industry resource — posted a production update on TB2 reporting that filming will begin on the film in March of 2026.  The PW post on TB2 did not have Matt Reeves, or anyone else, listed as the director.

Let the overreaction begin!

Here’s the deal…

Yes, it’s no secret that there’s something of a serious nature that caused the release to be pushed from 2026 to 2027. (Out of respect, I’m not going to get into that here on BOF. I hope like hell that all the people who have been raging against Matt Reeves feel like total assholes if and when it comes out.)  But that has nothing to do with Reeves not being listed on the latest PW update…because it’s the same update on TB2 from January 2, 2025, albeit with the new start of production date.

That’s it!

I asked around anyway and was told that yes, there was a legit reason for the push from 2026 to 2027 (which I already knew and talked about on an episode of THE BOF SOCIAL HOUR podcast), and no, Matt Reeves isn’t leaving TB2‘s director’s chair.

Futhermore, James Gunn himself shot down the bullshit as, well, bullshit on Threads

So that is THAT…until the next round of nonsense, sadly.

October 1, 2027. Be there or be square…even Batman, ahem, “fans” who are rooting for this film to be canceled. – Bill “Jett” Ramey
