“The Red Diary Cut” of BATMAN FOREVER Screening in LA May 29, 2025

Yes, I know it’s commonly called “The Schumacher Cut,” but director Joel Schumacher was quite proud and happy with the version of BATMAN FOREVER that was released in theaters 30 years ago in 1995.  I think the more appropriate description for it is either BATMAN FOREVER: THE EXTENDED EDITION or BATMAN FOREVER: THE RED DIARY EDITION.  But ANYWAY…

CineFile Video is having two screenings of the BATMAN FOREVER Shumacher/Extended/Red Diary on May 29, 2025 in Los Angeles, CA.  Details below, but it looks like you need to be a member, and seating is limited to 50 seats/showing.

Personally, I’d love to see the “Red Diary Edition” of BATMAN FOREVER and have long hoped that Warner Bros. would make it happen.  Perhaps now is the time, with the film celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, as well as the death of star of the film, Val Kilmer, not long ago.  Apparently (via TheWorldOfReel.com), the extended cut would give the film a 2 hours and 38 minutes and would take about $5-$10 million to properly finish the movie with additional post-production.  BOF is on board and publicly supports any efforts to make this happen.  What a why to honor Val Kilmer and Joel Schumacher — both of whom have passed — as well as being something cool for Batman fans.
