UPDATE 8/7/25: Via VARIETY, THE BATMAN PART II will begin filming in the Spring of 2026. This comes from a Warner Bros. Discovery letter to shareholders. Productionlist.com has reported that filming is set to commence on January 1, 2026.
I’m just speculating here, but perhaps there will be some second unit stuff filmed early next year before principal photography starts full-on. Regardless, preproduction has indeed begun, and it’ll be filming before we know it. That means some cool news (casting, new cast members, and characters) will be announced very soon!
The original story is below.
LET’S RIIIIIIIIIIIIIDE!
Via Productionlist.com, pre-production on THE BATMAN PART II has begun in the UK with principal photography set to start on January 1, 2026. The industry professional outlet also shares what appears to be a synopsis, but I don’t think it’s the final, or official, one…
The sequel explores Gotham’s slow recovery from the devastating flood caused by the Riddler in the previous film, tackling themes of societal division, power dynamics, and moral ambiguity. Reeves has described Batman’s new journey as operating in a more complex and “greyer” world — raising the stakes for character-driven tension and visual storytelling.
With pre-production underway and filming beginning in less than 5 months, we should start getting news and announcements about which characters will be in the film and, of course, who will be cast in these roles. Yes, the fun is just beginning!
