And, we can now say THE BATMAN PART II is coming…NEXT YEAR!
LOTS of questions about the recent THE BATMAN PART II casting rumors and the potential sale of Warner Bros. Discovery to Netflix. So instead of answering the same question multiple times, I addressed each once, FYI.
With that said, with THE BATMAN PART II in preproduction as we speak and filming to commence in just a few months this Spring, official news should and will start flowing in SOON! So as I always say, take it all in, have fun, and enjoy the ride!
Now, on to those questions. – Bill “Jett” Ramey
When do we expect the first casting news for THE BATMAN PART II? At this stage, I’m not expecting anything until January at the earliest.
JETT SAYS: The Scarlett Johansson and Brad Pitt scuttlebutt notwithstanding, I’ve said for a long time now that I thought official casting announcements would begin in early 2026. And here we are, so stay tuned.
How much chatter is there actually online and in the conversation about people (fans and casuals) about actually wanting a more fantastical Batman? I hear interest in some areas, but not in others. While the box office supports people preferring a more realistic Batman, that doesn’t take into account audience discussions and reception after the films are released.
JETT SAYS: While I tend not to surf in the cesspools of the Net, this “demand” comes from the Twitters/Reddits/etc. of the fandom world. Thus, it’s not an actual representation of what the general audience expects in a live-action Batman film. These cries for a “comic book accurate Batman” (i.e. Batman in a world alongside fantastical/magical/supernatural beings, aliens, etc.) come from a tremendously small part of the entire audience that goes to the theater and watches Batman films.
I’ve always believed that the mainstream audience prefers, and probably even expects, that a Batman film be presented relatively grounded and “realistic.” As you said, the proof of that is in the box office numbers and the audience’s reaction. The films that featured Batman in fantastical settings — BATMAN v SUPERMAN, JUSTICE LEAGUE, and even BATMAN & ROBIN — were both disasters to varying degrees and for different reasons. So…
With all that said, we’re fixin’ to find out if my aforementioned theory continues to be correct because the DCU Batman is coming in his blue and gray glory and will be mixing it up with superheroes, supervillains, aliens, ghosts, and child/teenage sidekicks very soon.
What is the worst comic book character of all time, and why is it Robin?
JETT SAYS: 😆😂
Well done, sir.
Do you think it’s wise for Gunn to introduce the DCU Batman before the end of Reeves’ [THE BATMAN EPIC CRIME] SAGA?
JETT SAYS: Nope.
When do you think we’ll see the DCU Batman? Maybe in CLAYFACE?
JETT SAYS: Well, it certainly looks like Gunn is hellbent on introducing him ASAP even though there’s a current Batman on film (Robert Pattinson) and Batman series (Matt Reeves’ SAGA) that’s been pretty successful. Whatever. I’ll say this…
I’d bet $1 Million that the DCU Batman shows up in Gunn’s MAN OF TOMORROW. There you go.
Best Rock band of all time? Not just in terms of popularity, but also in terms of the body of work?
JETT SAYS: Oh man…that’s a subjective AF question with no correct answer! So, I’ll have to cheat here…
Probably The Beatles or The Rolling Stones, based on your criteria, and me trying to be objective. But to me, it’s either Led Zeppelin or AC/DC. I’ll go with AC/DC because BACK IN BLACK is the greatest hard rock album in rock history. AND…
Elvis Presley is the greatest Rock icon in history. TCB⚡
Do you know who is voicing Batman in the upcoming animated KNIGHTFALL movies?
JETT SAYS: No idea. Hopefully, it’s someone new and hasn’t voiced Batman previously.
Do you know anything about which characters might be in THE BATMAN PART II? I mean, new characters.
JETT SAYS: I’m assuming you mean characters that we haven’t seen in a Batman film before. I’ll answer it this way…
Some of the rumors going around about actors and roles are true. And I wouldn’t bet money on it being Phantasm.
I was surprised by that blurb in the VARIETY article, saying that Zoe Kravitz is not expected to be in THE BATMAN PART II. I thought all the main cast of characters from the first film would be returning. Any thoughts regarding this matter?
JETT SAYS: THE BATMAN PART II picks up just a few weeks after the end of both the first movie and THE PENGUIN. As we know, she left for Bludhaven at the end of TB, so she’s, well, gone…for now. I totally expect to see her again in THE BATMAN PART III…and perhaps even before that. 😉
What’s your opinion on the future of DC Studios after the whole WB sale affair? I know you’re not a fan, but since I am, I’d love to have your, er, educated guess, being an insider and all.
JETT SAYS: Not a fan? I think the idea of a DC Studios focusing on DC-based projects is a very good one. What I’m not a fan of is this attempt at creating a shared, non-comic book, DC universe…for the second time. You can still have a DC Studios that produces DC content on film, TV, animation, games, etc., that doesn’t all connect. ANYWAY…
As for your main question, I asked people who know about that kind of thing, and the answers — actually, guesses — were all over the place. Basically, no one really knows. The new owners could keep DC Studios in its current state (James Gunn and Peter Safran) in charge; they could get rid of it and everything DC media (other than comics) returns under the Warner Bros. Pictures banner; or it could be anything in between.
We shall see.
If Gilda Dent is the main villain in THE BATMAN PART II, do you think it will be an assassin-type role, similar to Deadshot, hired to deal with Batman?
JETT SAYS: Well, I don’t think she’s The Holiday Killer or that Matt Reeves is making a live-action version of THE LONG HALLOWEEN. I’ll say this: Perhaps she is secretly involved with a mysterious and nefarious organization that exists in Gotham.
Just playing up the Scarlett Johansson rumors and having fun with it. How would The Phantasm fit into the current world of this Batman?
JETT SAYS: If they use The Phantasm kinda like the fake Batman in BATMAN: THE IMPOSTOR — which was written by THE BATMAN PART II cowriter Mattson Tomlin — I could see that working. But while I’m told ScarJo is playing a villain, I don’t see them going that route.
If Warner Bros. goes to Netflix, how do we think that would affect the Reeves and Gunn universes?
JETT SAYS: For the most part, my answer is the same as it was for the previous question. I will add that it appears that Warner Bros. needs top-notch filmmakers like Matt Reeves in its stable, you know what I’m saying’? I’d say the same thing about James Gunn with this one caveat: As co-head of DC Studios, he is also a studio executive…and those jobs can be axed in a New York second with new ownership. Just ask the previous heads of Warner Bros. Pictures during the AT&T and Discovery takeovers.
Do you think Barry Keoghan will be in THE BATMAN PART II?
JETT SAYS: Apparently, he does return as the “Unseen Arkham Prisoner.”
