Well, here we are…2026!
THE BATMAN PART II is in preproduction, with filming to begin in just a couple of months. Casting is underway with Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan set for big roles (Gilda Dent and Harvey Dent, respectively), with others to be announced soon.
Yes, this is the fun part, so enjoy the ride!
Now on to your questions. – Bill “Jett” Ramey
We’ve seen your Batman collection grow exponentially in the last few years. We’ve also seen some of your prized pieces, i.e., the photo with Nolan, the letter from Nolan, and the Bale-signed RISES poster, all of which are mentioned as favorites. Aside from those stellar pieces, do you have a particular action figure, or a few that stand out as favorites in your collection?
JETT SAYS: This Batman cowl/helmet. Very likely the first piece of Batman merchandise I ever owned. My mother bought it for me when I was like 4 (c. 1969) at a Western Auto store in Groves, TX. It came with a plastic cape, but I have no idea where it is. But I’ve had this cowl/helmet for essentially my entire life…and I’m now 60! I refurbished it a few years ago, and it is on display in my office.
Do you know of any other additional THE BATMAN universe media we can expect? I’ve enjoyed the art book, novel, THE IMPOSTOR, THE RIDDLER: YEAR ONE, etc. We need more!
JETT SAYS: I love that stuff too (though I’d say that BATMAN: THE IMPOSTOR is more like a kindred spirit to THE BATMAN than part of the SAGA), and I hope there are some tie-ins like those that come along with THE BATMAN PART II.
What are your thoughts on the SUPERGIRL movie that comes out this Summer?
JETT SAYS: Honestly, I don’t particularly have any thoughts about it because it really isn’t on my radar, and I have very little interest in it. I’ll probably go see it when it’s released…mostly because I am a Krypto fan. But waiting for it to hit HBO Max is a possibility as well.
Are there any other big casting announcements we haven’t heard yet?
JETT SAYS: I’m sure there have been a lot of casting for THE BATMAN PART II that haven’t been announced, and we’ve yet to hear. Probably because they are smaller, supporting roles. There is at least one major role that’s yet to be cast — the one for which Matt Reeves and co. wanted Brad Pitt to play — which is believed to be Christopher Dent, Harvey Dent’s father. We should be hearing about that one soon.
Will the Court have a Talon?
JETT SAYS: What is this “Court” and “Talon” you speak of?
Thoughts on Christina Hodson writing THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD? Kind of underwhelming to me.
JETT SAYS: No thoughts because I have no interest in the DCU Batman. My entire focus is on THE BATMAN PART II and THE BATMAN EPIC CRIME SAGA. You know, the Batman film that actually exists right now.
Do you think we’ll only get one THE BATMAN EPIC CRIME SAGA show on HBO outside of The Penguin by the time Matt Reeves wraps up his intended trilogy? Or does the recent sale of WB to Netflix put a bow on the potential idea of multiple other spin-offs down the line now?
JETT SAYS: I believe the plan is to do another HBO series in between PART II and PART III. If this next film is a huge hit — and I expect it to be one — I’m sure it’ll happen.
Is Matt Reeves pissed about the DCU Batman being in MAN OF TOMORROW?
JETT SAYS: There’s been some scuttlebutt that James Gunn had been testing actors for the DCU Batman, but Gunn himself said that it wasn’t true. When I heard the whispers of it, I said at the time that it would not surprise me in the least if it happened. But it looks like Gunn/DC Studios is pulling back and taking their time with the DCU Batman…which is the correct and right thing to do.
Look, I’ve been banging the drum here at BOF that Gunn should wait until Matt Reeves’ THE BATMAN EPIC CRIME SAGA concludes — and concludes AS PLANNED with a trilogy of films — before doing a solo DCU Batman movie or having the character show up in another DCU project. Gunn said recently on social media that he doesn’t want to “cloud the Batsphere” until at least after THE BATMAN PART II. How about not clouding it at all?
As I said, wait and introduce the next cinematic incarnation of Batman (the DCU version) AFTER Reeves’ SAGA is done? Probably won’t happen, but I’m going to keep banging that drum.
And to answer your question (😂), if that were to happen, I can’t imagine Reeves would be happy about it.
Do you expect a new Batsuit in THE BATMAN PART II?
JETT SAYS: Not really. Maybe a few tweaks or additions. Remember, THE BATMAN PART II‘s story starts just a few weeks after the events of the first film (with the events of THE PENGUIN in between), so I don’t know if Bruce has had time to make a totally new one. So yeah, tweaks and some additions are what I expect.
I’m enjoying [THE BATMAN PART II] casting news ride. Lots of big names, and I hope more are coming. However, I’ve yet to hear any nugget of news regarding the possibility of casting a never-before-seen character that could fit nicely in an epic crime saga: Ace. That’s right. Ace the Bat Hound! Am I holding on to a pipe dream that we get Ace in THE BATMAN PART II?
JETT SAYS: Man, I would LOVE it if Reeves and Mattson Tomlin wrote Bruce Wayne getting a dog he names Ace in TB2! Here’s some fan-fiction for you…
Bruce starts seeing a therapist — Dr. Leslie Tomkins (ala BATMAN: THE IMPOSTOR) — and she advises Bruce to get a dog. He names him Ace. Boom! It’s not like he has to give the dog a mask/cowl and Ace on the streets to fight crime alongside him. Pipedream? No. Likely? Probably not…but one can hope!
JETT SAYS: All I know is that they’ve been hard at work on it for a while now. Just a guess: late 2026 or early 2027 for release.
What are the chances we can get a whole movie with Harvey Dent and him NOT becoming Two-Face in the same movie? I personally would welcome the change from other movies and have the character develop.
JETT SAYS: I totally believe that is what’s going to happen. For one thing, it would be too much like THE DARK KNIGHT, and Reeves would want to avoid any comparisons. Secondly…what if Harvey never becomes Two-Face? What if another character close to him does? I mean, there is recent comic book precedent for it. If you know what I mean, you know what I mean.)
Do you consider Christopher Nolan a better filmmaker in general than Matt Reeves?
JETT SAYS: Chris is one of the greats. Matt Reeves is a fantastic filmmaker. Huge fan of both. That is my answer.
Is Barry Keoghan confirmed to return [in THE BATMAN PART II]?
JETT SAYS: All reports, as well as the word on the street, say that the “Unseen Arkham Prisoner” will return in PART II.
Do you think we’ll see more of Arkham in TB2?
JETT SAYS: Absolutely. Edward Nashton is there, as is the “Unseen Arkham Prisoner.”
