Ah, Robert Pattinson doing an interview is always, well, interesting. A notorious goof, you never know if RP is being serious, doing a bit, or some combo of both.
With that said, here’s what he had to say in a recent interview (with MyMovies on TikTok) about THE BATMAN PART II and how it compares to the original film…
Matt just wrote this amazing script. I think the first one was…it’s difficult to reinvent Batman as this new thing. And then to go in another totally different direction. I’m just looking at the playback on certain things…it looks different to the first one.
It’s just amazing. It’s a quite radical change of the script. It’s cool that Warner’s behind it, and DC. It’s just crazy. It’s a really radical retelling of Batman. I think people are going to be excited by it.
While we know that THE BATMAN PART II is part of an “Epic Crime Saga” and will continue with what THE BATMAN started and THE PENGUIN continued, knowing that Matt Reeves is also doing something different is both exciting and expected. Like, did anyone really think that THE BATMAN PART II would simply be a rehash of what we got in THE BATMAN? (*tongue firmly planted in cheek*) We all know it’s a remake/retread of THE DARK KNIGHT, remember?! (*tongue removed from cheek*)
What’s also cool is that Reeves and cowriter Mattson Tomlin apparently wrote a story and script that fresh and different from its predecessor. It’s amazing what can be done with an IP like Batman (and others) when the creatives aren’t shackled by the restraints of a shared universe and the “It MUST all connect!” mandate.
For me, the less we know about THE BATMAN PART II the better and Reeves and co. are doing a pretty damn good job of keeping as much of it a secret as possible. Yes, I know that there’re a ton of pics out there online due to the production filming outside on location, but for the most part, you have to go looking for that stuff to see it. Personally, I’ve avoided most of that crap and I continue to enjoy the ride to February 28, 2028.
