THE BATMAN Suspends Production 2 Weeks Over Coronavirus Concerns (UPDATED 3/15/20)

UPDATE 2 (3/15/20): VARIETY has run an article that backs up BOF’s previous update that THE BATMAN will suspend production for 2 weeks.  Jeffery Wright — who plays GCPD’s James Gordon in the — tweeted the following…

The VARIETY report also says that it’s unknown exactly how long THE BATMAN was going to shoot and if the June 25, 2021 release date will be affected/changed.

BOF was told that 3/4 of director Matt Reeves’ film will be shot “practical” and visual effects that will require a lot of post-production work will be relatively minimal.  With the release date still 15 months away, I can’t see the current release date of 6/25/20 being changed unless the hiatus is months instead of the current 2 weeks. – “Jett”

UPDATE 1 (3/14/20): I’ve been told that the 2-week suspension of production of THE BATMAN is legit and that they hope to get up and running again by early April.  Currently, BOF is waiting for a press release from Warner Bros. to confirm.  The original report is below. Stay tuned to BOF for all THE BATMAN news and of course, stay safe! – Jett

Let’s start with the good news first, OK?

According to Justin Kroll of VARIETY, THE BATMAN will continue production…

Now for the bad news

I’ve had 2 unrelated sources tell me that THE BATMAN is going to put the production of THE BATMAN on hold for 2 weeks and then resume late March/early April.  I have reached out to several other folks who would know and I’m waiting on their responses.

Personally, we’re all fine at BOF HQ here in Tomball, Texas (soon to be moving to North Texas/the DFW).  “Announcer Rachel” is an English teacher and her school district has shut down schools/”extended Spring Break” for at least a week.  We went to the grocery store and Costco yesterday and it was a GD madhouse!  I talked to friend of BOF (FOBOF) Lee Bermejo via email yesterday and he says that Italy — where he resides — is shut down and things are serious AF.

From me to all you BOF’ers — I know y’all are literally WORLDWIDE — I hope y’all are safe and stay that way.  My advice: stock up on beer, wine, and liquor. 😉

Stay tuned to BOF for the latest news on this fluid situation.  Keep in mind that the release date of THE BATMAN is still 15 months away, so a short halt of filming shouldn’t affect its Summer 2021 bow.
