A METAL MEN Movie is Coming!

If you’re a longtime reader of BOF, you should know that I’ve LONG advocated a METAL MEN comic book movie.

Well, it finally just might happen!

Via THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER (by way of reporter Boris Kit), “Animation legends” Ron Clements and John Musker (The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, The Princess and the Frog) have teamed up with Celeste Ballard (Space Jam: A New Legacy) for an animated film based on METAL MEN. Clements and Musker are producing and have written the treatment for the project, which they are planning to direct, per the trade.

Created by Robert Kanigher and Ross Andru in 1962 (SHOWCASE #37), The Metal Men revolves around a brilliant scientist, William Magnus, and his creations: six highly advanced robots who have powers and personalities associated with their respective metals — gold, iron, lead, tin, mercury, and platinum.

I discovered The Metal Men as a kid in the pages of DC Comic’s THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD title (I have the comic — THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD #103) that you see to the right).

The Metal Men also appeared in the great animated series, BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD, in the episode titled, “Clash of the Metal Men!”

I was hoping for a live-action film based on The Metal Men, but if done in the animation style of THE INCREDIBLES, for example, that might work even better.  Regardless, here’s hoping that this project comes to fruition. – Bill “Jett” Ramey
