Well, we’re damn near the midway point (already) of 2025 which means we’re getting closer to THE BATMAN: PART II going into production (filming starts in less than a year from now). Preproduction should commence here shortly (casting is rumored to begin this Summer), so we should start hearing some news about the film soon (probably after SUPERMAN has been in theaters for a few weeks). As I always say, this is the fun part — the slow buildup to a film’s release — so enjoy the ride! It’ll be here and gone before you know it. Remember how we “couldn’t wait” for BATMAN BEGINS to be released? Well, that was 20 friggin’ years ago! Yeah, let that sink in.
Now, let’s get to y’all’s questions. – Bill “Jett” Ramey
How many Mailbags have there been in the history of BOF?
JETT SAYS: 220…221.
Since THE BATMAN: PART II won’t be out ’til 2+ years (from now), is there a chance for THE PENGUIN to get a second season in the meantime?
JETT SAYS: I don’t think so. THE PENGUIN was meant to lead directly into THE BATMAN: PART II, with only a few weeks since the end of the series and the upcoming sequel. Perhaps there will be a second season of THE PENGUIN after TB2 and/or another THE BATMAN spinoff on HBO/Max between PART II and PART III.
What is the ranking of your favorite live-action Batmobiles?
JETT SAYS: I may or may not have changed my ranking since this podcast…
With all the talk and speculation about whatever personal situation Matt Reeves has been dealing with, do you think there’s any chance he has to drop out of directing THE BATMAN: PART II and someone else takes over using the script he and Tomlin have written? He still stays very hands-on, and it’s his vision; he can’t commit to the day-to-day of directing a movie for a 6-month type of deal?
JETT SAYS: I have been told that Matt Reeves is directing, and I trust those who have given me that information. Not saying this is happening at all, but I’d say that if Matt Reeves was really unable to helm THE BATMAN: PART II, the film would not be made.
Who is your favorite “one and done character” (not a villain or superhero) in live action Batman films , example Alexander Knox , Chase Meridian, etc?
— WW (@Batboat77) May 23, 2025
JETT SAYS: Oh man, good question. Probably Alexander Knox from BATMAN ’89. Vicki Vale is a favorite of mine as well. And Dr. Burton from BATMAN FOREVER! 🙂
On a scale of 1-10, what’s your interest/excitement level for SUPERMAN?
JETT SAYS: Probably a 6.5…mainly because of Krypto. It would be a full-on 10 if Gunn didn’t include those non-Superman DC characters in it, you know, to help set up the shared universe. IT MUST ALL CONNECT!
What do you think, in the Penguin series there is a talk about Hamilton Hill, would we see him appearing in The Batman Part II?
— Iann (@IGabriel61031) May 22, 2025
JETT SAYS: I’d say it’s very possible. I believe he’s referred to as being a Congressman in THE PENGUIN, so I don’t think he’ll end up as the city’s mayor — especially since Bella Real was just elected and took office. We’ll see!
Do you think that we will actually get a trilogy for THE BATMAN if SUPERMAN is highly successful at the box office?
JETT SAYS: Well, I don’t think SUPERMAN‘s performance at the box office has any affect on THE BATMAN SAGA. In fact, I’d say that if SUPERMAN is a big hit, they can feature him as the main DC character of this new DCU and not have to rush adding the DCU version of Batman. WB and DC Studios have a good thing going with Matt Reeves and THE BATMAN SAGA, and I’m sure neither wants to mess it up.
Provided the reports about the script for Batman Part 2 being turned in over this weekend, when do you expect the Matt Reeves casting announcement GIFs to start in earnest?
— Josh Anderson (@joroandy7) May 22, 2025
JETT SAYS: Like I’ve said, after SUPERMAN has been in theaters for a while…at least a month or so, I figure. So late Summer or early Fall is my best guess.
Out of all of the live-action Bat-Films, which film had your favorite batsuit? Aesthetically or practical.
JETT SAYS: Honestly, I’ve liked all the Bat-Suits from the films…other than the “Freeze Suit” from BATMAN AND ROBIN. If I had to pick one, it’s the Bat-Suit worn by Robert Pattinson in THE BATMAN. It’s totally inspired by Lee Bermejo’s Batman artwork, and I’m a big fan of Lee and his artistic take on Batman.
Were you ever concerned that THE BATMAN: PART II was going to be cancelled regardless of Gunn saying, “No, that wasn’t going to happen.”
JETT SAYS: I won’t bullshit y’all…when it moved from 2026 to 2027 I overreacted and said it was done. I figured that there were some behind-the-scenes shenanigans taking place at WB/DC Studios and the powers that be wanted THE BATMAN SAGA canceled so they can get to the DCU Batman ASAP. Then I did what I should’ve done before I reacted which was to ask people who know, and I learned that yes, I had overreacted.
Is there a Batman reference in James Gunn’s SUPERMAN movie?
JETT SAYS: Of course! Gotta let the audience know (beat them over the head) that this is a shared universe and it all CONNECTS, dammit!
I enjoyed the discussion with Pete on the most recent social hour about potential characters in Part Two. Bill, you are of the opinion the core villains will return. If Riddler and “Joker” are in the movie, do you guess that the scenes are in Arkham or will they break out?
— Marc (@GothamMarc) May 22, 2025
JETT SAYS: I’m guessing that both will continue to be locked up in Arkham in THE BATMAN: PART II. Maybe they break out at some point near the end of the film as a way of helping set up the big finale in PART III.
