When members of the press get to talk to anyone involved with THE BATMAN PART II, they are going to ask about, well, THE BATMAN PART II.
Understandable, because it’s Batman.
In this case, it was Andy Serkis’ turn via SCREENRANT.
Since filming is set to begin in just a little over 2 months (May 29th-ish is the alleged date), Serkis was asked if he was about to report to work in Gotham. “I’m a little busy [directing the animated ANIMAL FARM movie],” said Serkis, who added that he “won’t be joining them immediately.” However, he would be joining the cast and crew “by the end of the year.”
Sounds like it’s going to be a relatively long shoot…like May to October-ish?
The current live-action Alfred Pennyworth on film added that he believes it’ll be a “very emotional film.”
I obviously can’t say too much about the film other than that I am really excited about going back into the world and working with Matt Reeves again, who I’ve now worked with a number of times, and he’s a dear friend, and Rob. And the script and the story and the new story really does speak to Matt as a human being and what he feels about life. Rob and he got on brilliantly. And I can’t say any more than that, but yeah, the relationship continues to be one of a very close, slightly at odds, but beautiful relationship.
Naturally, he’s not going to say anything regarding the film’s plot nor give away any specific details, but it’s still nice to hear him speak so positively. (And yes, I’m well aware he wouldn’t say, “Yeah, I read the script and it sucks!”)
As a fan of this Batman world, I’m very excited to see where the Bruce Wayne/Alfred relationship goes in PART II. Yes, Bruce was aloof and cold towards Alfred in THE BATMAN, but he was supposed to be. That scene between the two in THE BATMAN in the hospital was flat-out fantastic — one of the best parts of the film. Bruce had his epiphany that, yeah, I love this man (Alfred), and I need to grow as ‘Bruce Wayne,’ not just as Batman.”
Enjoy the ride! – Bill “Jett” Ramey
