Yeah, it’s been a while since I did a BOF Mailbag. Sorry…life gets in the way. Anyway, let’s get to y’all’s questions! – Bill “Jett” Ramey
When do you think we will get the first trailer [for THE BATMAN PART II]? I want zero spoilers, but very keen to see the tone and look of the film, especially with new Director of Photography and Battinson saying the film will be very different.
On the most recent edition of THE BOF SOCIAL HOUR podcast, Ryan Lower and I talked about it. I’m of the belief that we won’t get a teaser or trailer until after MAN OF TOMORROW is released next year on July 9th. Why? Well, I don’t think WB/DC Studios will want to distract from that film with so much riding on it. Plus, THE BATMAN PART II will still be over a half year out when the SUPERMAN sequel hit theaters. With all that said, I’m sure we’ll get some cool teases from Matt Reeves via social media well before a full trailer.
What role in THE BATMAN PART II do you think The Penguin will play in the overall story for this film?
A small one, as Collin Farrell has said himself. If I had to guess, I’d say that The Batman pays him a visit while Oz is holding court at The Iceberg Lounge to get some info, Dark Knight-style.
Why do you keep pushing for and want Robert Pattinson to show up in HBO Max’s LANTERNS?

Any news on a third season of BATMAN: CAPED CRUSADER?
Not really. Only that a third season hasn’t been OK’ed, but the creators behind it are ready and willing to go if they get the greenlight. I certainly hope that we get one…but it did have a closed ending with season two. But hell yeah, give me more of this animated Bat-Series!
What did you think of the first KNIGHTFALL movie?
I reviewed it HERE on BOF and we also talked about it on the most recent BOF SOCIAL HOUR podcast.
Let’s say Rob doesn’t want to return for THE BATMAN PART II. Do you guys think Matt reeves will re-cast or will it just be two and done?
Why wouldn’t he return if PART III gets the greenlight? RP loves playing Batman! Furthermore, I’m sure he signed on for three films. Rob not returning isn’t an issue; Warner Bros./DC Studios not OK’ing a third movie (as Reeves originally envisioned and planned) is the roadblock. But if THE BATMAN PART III is as big of a hit as expected, there’s no way WB/DCS wouldn’t do a third one.
I don’t think there will be a THE BATMAN PART III because Robert Pattinson will be too old. Do you agree?
No.
For one thing, Robert Pattinson is one of those actors who can play both older and younger than his chronological age. Like right now, he’s filming THE BATMAN PART II over a half decade later than when he filmed THE BATMAN, and looks exactly the same.
Secondly, while there isn’t really a time-jump between THE BATMAN and PART II (the latter takes place only a few weeks after the evens of the former), there could be one between PART II and PART III.
So, RP’s age is the least of my concerns when it comes to the possibility of a third movie in the SAGA.
What’s the most recent thing you’ve added to your Batman collection?
This. It arrived a couple of days ago…

And these…
Watching LANTERNS?
I am. And I like it very much.
The only thing that will prevent me from ultimately putting it up there with WATCHMEN and THE PENGUIN as the absolute best of DC on TV is if it’s compromised by advertising for the DCU shared universe. For example, if Superman shows up just because MAN OF TOMORROW comes out next Summer, it’ll damn near ruin the whole thing for me.
As of right now, LANTERNS is proof that you don’t need a GD shared universe to prop up DC projects. Just make good DC stuff!
Hey Bill! It seems like Matt Reeves is keeping a tight lid on THE BATMAN PART II casting, but there are constant rumors flying around online about who is playing Harvey Dent and ScarJo’s role in the film. From what you know about how Reeves operates, do you think he’s going to shock us with a totally unexpected villain announcement, or will he stick to his grounded, procedural roots and introduce a lesser-known mobster or rogue?
I believe Reeves is keeping everything close to the chest to protect fans from themselves and ultimately allow them to enjoy the film as much as is possible in this day and age. I get the excitement that fans have about THE BATMAN PART II, but I don’t get why anyone would seek out as much info possible, including major spoilers. And don’t even get me started on the wannabe scoopers and influences who will post anything and everything just in the name of hits and traffic.
Sebastian Stan recently said, “There’s no way people will fully grasp how this movie is until they see it.” And to that I say, hell yeah!
Which Batman album/soundtrack did you listen to most recently?
THE BATMAN score by Michael Giachhino. Brilliance.
Any chance we see a Robin in the Reevesverse, or is that still off the table for this version of Batman?
I 100% believe that Matt Reeves will do a version of “Robin” that fits the world of the Reevesverse. Now, will it be a version that ridged AF fanboys will like or accept? That’s another question.
How do you feel about the idea of two Batmen coexisting — Pattinson in the Reevesverse and whoever James Gunn casts for the DCU?
You KNOW how I feel LOL!
I believe it would be a very bad decision by James Gunn and he probably knows that. Two cinematic Batmans at the same time is not good for the character. It’s oversaturation and too much of a good thing. If Gunn’s DCU needs Batman that desperately to be a success, then there’s no reason to have a shared universe.
Just make good DC stuff…like LANTERNS (until Superman shows up…maybe).
Hey Jett, love the site and been with you since 2002!. I was rewatching Nolan’s trilogy recently and a debate broke out in my friend group. Looking back at THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, do you think Christopher Nolan originally intended for John Blake to truly become “Batman” down the road, or was that ending purely symbolic to show that Batman is an incorruptible idea that can outlive Bruce Wayne? What’s your take?
I believe he meant the ending to be ambiguous, and people could interpret and create “what happens next” in their own imaginations and all would be valid.
What’s your read on the DCU Batman casting rumors? Are any of these names legit or is it just the usual internet nonsense?
Couldn’t care less about the DCU Batman much less any casting rumors. My focus is on the actor currently playing Batman, Robert Pattinson, and the film he’s presently making, THE BATMAN PART II. Pattinson and THE BATMAN EPIC CRIME SAGA are real; the DCU Batman doesn’t even exist.
Do you think Pattinson’s Batman will ever get a proper Batmobile chase scene like in the Burton and Nolan films?
Did you watch THE BATMAN? The chase scene in that film between Batman and The Penguin may be the greatest in the history of Batman on film.
