The “Badass” Comic Book Zoe Kravitz Read to Prep for THE BATMAN

On the Happy, Sad, Confused Podcast, host Josh Horowitz asked Zoe Kravitz which Batman comics she was reading to prepare for her role as Selina Kyle/Catwoman in director Matt Reeves’ THE BATMAN.  Here’s what she had to say without any hesitation…

I’ve been reading the YEAR ONE comic.  It’s wonderful…it’s great, it’s great.  It’s like super-badass – It is! – it’s badass [laughs]!

Indeed, BATMAN: YEAR ONE is badass and it’s good to hear that this classic Batman story is one of the comic book inspirations for THE BATMAN.   Here’s a bit more about what she had to say about the film and her Catwoman…

On seeing Robert Pattinson in the suit as Batman…

Oh, it was amazing!   He’s ‘Batman…when he’s wearing that costume he’s BATMAN!  It’s interesting…you really don’t get used to seeing Batman walk past you!  We’ve all grown up with this character, so it’s like a pinch-me moment all the time.  He’s wonderful, he’s really wonderful.

On the look of her Catsuit…

It’s funny, I really didn’t think about how difficult it is to make something like a cat-suit original – like how do reinvent the jean jacket, you know?  But Jacqueline Durran – our everything costume designer – is just a genius.  It was cool to be part of the process, because sometimes with films this big, it can be very much ‘put this on, stand over there, say this.’  And Matt [Reeves] is very much about process, the whole thing [designing the suit] began with conversations between me, Matt, and Jaqueline.  We kinda birthed this thing together.  And there are references to the year of the comic we’re dealing with.  It’s cool!  If this [the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown] hadn’t happened it would’ve already come out by now.  I love it!

On the film in general…

Matt [Reeves] is absolutely the man for this job and the script is phenomenal.

Ms. Kravitz also said it was a bummer to be right in the middle of filming and then having to shut down.  However, I’m pretty sure her wait to resume shooting is about to come to an end as BOF has been told that filming on THE BATMAN will resume in early July.  Fingers crossed!
