When it comes to THE BATMAN UNIVERSE, we already know that Matt Reeves is currently writing (with Mattson Tomlin) the sequel to THE BATMAN, THE PENGUIN HBO Max series with Colin Farrell is about to commence filming early next year, and another HBO Max series set around Arkham Asylum is in the planning stages.

But, what else does Matt Reeves have planned for THE BATMAN UNIVERSE?

According to a new report about the status of DC on film from THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, a lot.  Here’s the quote…

Meanwhile, in Gotham City, filmmaker Reeves is quietly making his own expansion plans. Reeves is developing a sequel to his The Batman, which grossed a respectable $770.8 million worldwide when it was released in March. Already, a series spinoff focusing on Colin Farrell’s Penguin is on its way to filming next year. But Reeves is plotting more. The filmmaker is meeting with writers and directors to build out movies — yes movies, not just series — focused on Batman rogue’s gallery, both established and more obscure, with characters ranging from the Scarecrow to Clayface to Professor Pyg. All those projects are in the very early stages of gestation.

Interesting.

I will say that there have been some rumblings about Reeves’ take on Clayface the character being based on the original Basil Karlo version of the character as a disgraced actor/master of disguise who, um, is a murderer…

Here’s hoping that something — a film or HBO Max series — featuring Zoe Kravit’s Selina Kyle/Catwoman is in the works as well.  Exciting times for Batman fans!

Bill "Jett" Ramey
Bill “Jett” Ramey isn’t just a Batman fan — he’s one of the founding fathers of the online Batman community. As the creator and Editor-in-Chief of Batman-On-Film.com, the original and longest-running Batman news and commentary site, Jett helped carve the very bedrock of modern fan internet press. A lifelong Dark Knight disciple, Jett has spent decades championing filmmaker‑driven Batman stories, cutting through fanboy noise with a Texas‑sized dose of honesty, and keeping the conversation smart, civil, and drama‑free. He’s the BOF Godfather — the guy who was here before the hashtags, before the clickbait, before the algorithms… and he’s still here, still talking Batman, still calling it straight. When he steps out of Gotham, Jett is pure Texas. He bleeds Dallas Cowboys blue, blasts Elvis and rock ’n’ roll, and has a deep appreciation for cold beer, dive bars, and Texas Longhorns football. He works out, he cooks, and he can grill like a man who’s earned the right to say “don’t assume” when he tells you he lives in the great state of Texas. He shares that home with his wife — “Announcer Rachel” — and their dogs: Gracelin the Labradoodle and Presley, a rescue pup named after the King himself.
