Per a new report on THE FLASH by VARIETY, Warner Bros. has a script for a sequel if the film does well enough to warrant one.  Furthermore, both Michael Keaton’s Batman/Bruce Wayne and Sasha Calle’s Supergirl are included in it.  Here’s the blurb on the matter from the trade…

Though Warners never announced it, the studio already has a finished sequel script from David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick (“Aquaman”) if a Part 2 is in the cards. That script is said to have guest-starred Keaton’s Batman and Calle’s new Supergirl.

Interesting.  My take…

This indicates to me that a sequel to THE FLASH will end up falling under DC Studio’s ELSEWORLDS banner and not be part of the new DCU that commences with SUPERMAN: LEGACY in 2025.  Why?  Well, we know that there’s going to be a “DCU Batman” that will debut relatively soon in THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD movie.  Also, BOF has been told that it is likely that the Supergirl we’ll get in SUPERGIRL: WOMAN OF TOMORROW movie that’s part of the first slate of DCU projects from WB/DC Studios.

If this indeed ends up happening, it’s more than fine by me.  If you’re a regular reader of BOF and/or listen to my THE BOF SOCIAL HOUR podcast, you know I am a HUGE proponent of the ELSEWORLDS banner.  While there will be interconnected DC projects within the DCU, we’re also getting DC projects that stand apart and aren’t part of a shared universe like Matt Reeves’ THE BATMAN SAGA (and all that entails) and JOKER: FOLIE à DEUX.

And lest we forget, there were BIG plans for Keaton’s Batman/Bruce Wayne in the new DCU post-THE FLASH — albeit that was before the new DCU became the James Gunn/Peter Safran DCU.  While that DCU plan has been scrapped, that doesn’t mean we can’t see more of Keaton’s Batman in future DC projects under that ELSEWORLDS banner.  I mean, they created it for a reason, right?

The bottom line is that THE FLASH has to do well enough at the box office to get a sequel.  Here’s hoping it is and it puts pressure (good pressure, not bad pressure) on Warner Bros., DC Studios, and James Gunn/Peter Safran to greenlight that follow-up film.  AND…

Here’s also hoping that the return of Michael Keaton’s Batman is such a huge success it makes more Keaton Batman a no-brainer.  I’ll say it again…

They created the ELSWORLDS banner for a reason, right? – Bill “Jett” Ramey

Bill "Jett" Ramey
Bill “Jett” Ramey isn’t just a Batman fan — he’s one of the founding fathers of the online Batman community. As the creator and Editor-in-Chief of Batman-On-Film.com, the original and longest-running Batman news and commentary site, Jett helped carve the very bedrock of modern fan internet press. If there is a Mount Rushmore of this stuff, his face is already up there — sunglasses on, arms crossed, probably telling someone to calm down. A lifelong Dark Knight disciple, Jett has spent decades championing filmmaker‑driven Batman stories, cutting through fanboy noise with a Texas‑sized dose of honesty, and keeping the conversation smart, civil, and drama‑free. He’s the BOF Godfather — the guy who was here before the hashtags, before the clickbait, before the algorithms… and he’s still here, still talking Batman, still calling it straight. When he steps out of Gotham, Jett is pure Texas. He bleeds Dallas Cowboys blue, blasts Elvis and rock ’n’ roll, and has a deep appreciation for cold beer, dive bars, and Texas Longhorns football. He works out, he cooks, and he can grill like a man who’s earned the right to say “don’t assume” when he tells you he lives in the great state of Texas. He shares that home with his wife — “Announcer Rachel” — and their dogs: Gracelin the Labradoodle and Presley, a rescue pup named after the King himself.
