You read the headline and apparently, he doesn’t according to the folks behind THE PENGUIN.  He’s what showrunner Lauren LeFranc had to say (via SFX)…

I understand why people’s desire would be to have Batman, or to think that unless Batman’s in a show or a film then it doesn’t have the same punch.

To me I think it packs a different punch. Matt’s films are through the lens of The Batman, so you’re high up, looking down on the city. It’s a different perspective. With Oz, you’re in the city streets, you’re in the grit and the muck and the grime. He’s looking up, wanting to claw his way to the top.

So it’s a different experience.  I think Gotham is an interesting enough city that it deserves to have more doors unlocked within it, and for us to walk through those and see what we think.

I don’t disagree with her at all.  I think THE PENGUIN can be a “Batman” thing without Batman and stand on its own…and be successful.  Here’s what the man behind THE BATMAN SAGA, Matt Reeves, had to say…

I don’t feel like it’s missing something fundamental.  I feel like it’s an extension of what is fundamentally there. We know this is the world of Batman.

You’re going down a different alley. So the spectre of Batman is there.  The spectre of The Riddler is there. The spectre of everything that happens in the last movie is there. It informs it. And it’s exactly where we begin.

And I agree with Matt Reeves as well, BUT…

I still believe Pattinson has a cameo in THE PENGUIN.  I don’t consider them lying — why would they officially let the bat out of the bag and ruin the moment for everyone?  Sure there has been scuttlebutt about Pattinson being on the set at one point and that he was indeed doing a cameo — from legit folks for that matter — but nothing has been confirmed.  In a day where fans want to know everything and they want to know it yesterday, being unspoiled and being surprised is still the best way to go.

On the other hand, maybe they are 100% being honest…unless they aren’t. – Bill “Jett” Ramey
