Per DEADLINE, a new animated Batman feature film, DYNAMIC DUO, has gotten the greenlight.  The film will focus on the early days of Robins Dick Grayson and Jason Todd.  A new animation studio named Swaybox (located in New Orleans) and its husband-and-wife team of Arthur Mintz and Theresa Andersson with Mintz directing.

Swaybox uses a technology known as “Momo animation” — a cross between CGI animation, practical elements of stop-motion, and live-action real-time performance. The result is long-form storytelling billed as “visually breathtaking, dynamically expressive, and more human.”

Matt Reeves and his 6th & Idaho (Matt Reeves is the “Batman Man” at WB) are producing along with James Gunn and Peter Safran of DC Studios. Michael Uslan serves as executive producer.  It is not part of Reeves’ THE BATMAN SAGA.  No word yet if it is part of Gunn’s DCU or simply its own thing.

Said Reeves: “I have wanted to make a film with Arthur and Swaybox for many years, and for that film to be Dynamic Duo, an incredibly special and unique Batman and Robin story for families, is a dream.”

This is a good thing.  Kids need a conduit into the world of Batman as well as Batman projects aimed at them — THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE (which is one of my favorite Batman movies) and last year’s MERRY LITTLE BATMAN (really liked it as well) are great examples.  CLICK HERE or on any of the links provided for the full story/more details. – Bill “Jett” Ramey
