Hello from a bar in the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, where I’m heading out to Charlotte, NC while nursing 2 broken ribs.
Don’t ask! ANYWAY…
While I was standing in line waiting to go through security, I saw an email pop up on my watch (yes, I have one of those fancy smartwatches) from Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment announcing that BATMAN: KNIGHTFALL is getting the animated film series treatment. (At the same time, BOF’s Ryan Hoss hit me up with a text informing me of this new…thanks RH!)
So yes, the rumors were true and James Gunn/DC Studios didn’t kill the project in favor of the must-have new DCU where everything MUST connect GD’it!
The announcement was made at New York Comic Con 2025, which is taking place this weekend. Part 1, KNIGHTFALL, is currently in production and is scheduled for release sometime in 2026. Here’s the synopsis…
When the mysterious behemoth known only as Bane frees Batman’s entire Rogues Gallery from Arkham Asylum, the Caped Crusader is pushed to his mental and physical breaking point.
BATMAN: KNIGHTFALL PART I: KNIGHTFALL is directed by Jeff Wamester and written by Jeremy Adams. Rick Morales serves as Supervising Producer alongside Producers Jim Krieg and Kimberly S. Moreau. Sam Register and Michael Uslan are Executive Producers.
While I’m not personally a big fan of the story over all — I really like the first part and didn’t care much for the next 2, and Jean-Paul Valley sucks — I’m very happy that DC Studios seems to be dedicated to continuing to make these animated (mostly) Batman and DC films.
Stay tuned to BOF for our coverage of the entire BATMAN: KNIGHTFALL animated saga. Now, I shall go back to my airport beer and try not to sneeze. – Bill “Jett” Ramey
