In case you’ve been living in a cave — and NOT a bat cave — for the last year or so, Colin Farrell kicked ass as Oz “The Penguin” Cobb in the HBO series, THE PENGUIN.
If you’re still in that non-bat-cave cave, you may not know that he’s reprising the role in THE BATMAN PART II, and it apparently kicks so much ass that CF cried while reading the script.
OK, I made that crying part of it, but it seems that he really, Really, REALLY likes it. Here’s what he recently told VARIETY…
My perspective is that it’s a work of contemporary genre brilliance. It really is. Matt toils so hard, and he puts himself under such pressure. And he realizes what this character and this world mean to so many people, and he knows it’s been around for decades; he’s the man for the job. He really is. He’s a brilliant filmmaker. The thing about Matt, as well, is that, as commercially minded as he is, he’s also so intellectually rigorous.
This film, like the first one, works on multiple levels, both as pure entertainment and as an investigation into the psychology of the characters of Bruce Wayne and Batman. It’s really, really moving. I found myself very emotionally moved while I was reading it.
“Really, really moving.”
“Very emotionally moved,”
Sounds like Matt Reeves and Mattson Tomlin crafted one hell of a Batman film.
Hopefully, fans appreciate what we have with Reeves and THE BATMAN EPIC CRIME SAGA; we might not get anything “Batman on film” like it and Christopher Nolan’s THE DARK KNIGHT TRILOGY again.
I know I do…even while seemingly all of Batman fandom and genre press have a jones about who is playing the DCU Batman and when they’ll see him in space with teenage sidekicks.
Whatever. – Bill “Jett” Ramey
