In an interview with DEADLINE, Sebastian Stan — who will play Harvey Dent in THE BATMAN PART II — had a lot of positive praise for Matt Reeves and Mattson Tomlin’s script, saying, among other things, that the film has the potential to “blow people away.”  Here’s the full quote:

[THE BATMAN PART II will be] a challenge, like everything else. I feel like it’s a really ambitious movie, and I think if we do it all right — and obviously I’m so excited about Matt Reeves [directing] because he’s been one of my favorites for a long, long time — I really think it’s going to blow people away. It’s going to surprise a lot of people, I think, too.

Look, I know that’s what he has to say. And yes, there is something prestigious about being in a Batman movie — especially coming off one as heralded and successful as THE BATMAN.  But Stan is at the point in his career that he doesn’t have to take a job to take a job, you know what I mean? The same goes for Scarlett Johansson. But alas, those who lean on the pessimistic side (AKA the fake world of fandom on social media) will bitch and complain just for the sake of bitching and complaining.

Whatever.

As a veteran of the superhero/comic book films (he was/is part of the MCU as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier), he was asked if the genre is still relevant…

Obviously, there’s a reason why Batman’s been re-occurring for so many years, and why so many kids love Spider-Man. When you’re thinking of, honestly, just anything positive for young men. If you’re a teenager and you’re growing up and you’re watching that, it’s about a kid being odd and figuring his way into things. And it works in very subtle ways.

It’s interesting to me that he responded to that question by mentioning Batman and Spider-Man. I have said here on BOF many times that those two characters are the only ones that have been proven to be Teflon, no matter the number of reboots and different takes/incarnations of the characters.  At the end of the day, there will always be Batman and Spider-Man movies, shared universes or not.

Back to Stan and THE BATMAN PART II, I’m very excited to see what’s in store for the iconic character of Harvey Dent in Matt Reeves’ SAGA. I’m expecting something fresh, new, and different from what we’ve seen before (Billy Dee Williams in BATMAN, Tommy Lee Jones in BATMAN FOREVER, and Aaron Eckhart in THE DARK KNIGHT). Enjoy the ride…if you let yourself. – Bill “Jett” Ramey
