THE BATMAN PART II’s Release Date Move Isn’t a Big Deal

But How We Were Told Was Rather Uncool

13

I get it, I really do.

Matt Reeves/Warner Bros./DC Studios drops the first video of Robert Pattinson as The Batman from THE BATMAN PART II another “Camera Test” and then sneak in at the end that the film has been pushed back…AGAIN.

GD’it!

Fans are disappointed — and that’s more than fair. We’ve all been waiting for THE BATMAN PART II, well, for a long time now, and that makes yet another change of release date suck really bad. But let’s keep this in perspective: The film moved back four months. Four months. Not a year. Not two. Just FOUR MONTHS.

And while a few corners of fandom are treating this like a life-altering catastrophe, the reality is a lot calmer…and a lot more logical.

This is the part that gets lost in the noise: THE BATMAN PART II is actively filming as we speak. Reeves, Pattinson, the whole crew — they’re on set, doing the work, building the world, making the movie.

This isn’t a “troubled production”. It’s not stalled. It’s not secretly being rewritten and retooled. It isn’t canceled. No, it’s happening. So, the idea that a four‑month shift signals doom and gloom doesn’t line up with reality.

As we have learned, and now know (very well), Matt Reeves is meticulous and deliberate. He’s not the “rush it out the door” type. If giving him a few (FOUR) more months in post‑production allows Reeves to really polish the film and make it the best it can be, I’m fine with that…because it’s only FOUR MONTHS.

The other half of this move is pure box office strategy: President’s Day weekend is a great place to release a big movie like THE BATMAN PART IILong weekend with a strong box‑office history.

And — don’t forget — no football (be it high school, college, or the NFL) competing for attention. No more playoffs and the Super Bowl will have been played the week prior. People will be wanting something to do, so why not take yet another cinematic trip to Gotham City?

If this were a full year-plus delay, or something that pushed the film into the unknown, then yeah — fans would have every right to grab the pitchforks…and I’d lead the F’n charge.

But that’s not what this is. This isn’t a Tim Burton’s SUPERMAN LIVES or George Miller’s JUSTICE LEAGUE MORTAL situation.

THE BATMAN PART II is filming as we speak. The plan is intact. THE BATMAN EPIC CRIME SAGA is moving forward.

I will give a shoutout to my colleague, BOF Senior Contributor Ryan Lower’s take on this situation. He believes that WB/DC Studios/Matt Reeves should have simply announced the release date change. Let the fans get upset, get over it, and THEN drop the video of Rob Pattinson’s TB2 “Camera Test” in the Batsuit.

Fair. Frankly, I think it was a, well, not a very good way to let fans know that the release date had been moved (again). And we shall discuss on a future BOF SOCIAL HOUR podcast.

To me, personally, it’s another 4 months that I can cover this film and, well, “enjoy the ride”. Perhaps I look at it differently because I’m, ahem, “older” (lest we forget, BOF is currently in year 28 and will be celebrating year 30 when TB2 is released) and Reeves’ SAGA is likely my last hurrah before BOF and I ride off into the retirement sunset.

If you’re disappointed, that’s more than understandable. But if you’re melting down and raging…nah. It’s not that serious in the grand scheme of life. – Bill “Jett” Ramey
