Via an email/press release BOF received today from DC Comics, Batman and Catwoman — or Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle — will be getting hitched in this coming July 4th in BATMAN #50.
Or will they?
Here’s the blurb from the press release…
In a Batman story by Tom King and artist Clay Mann, The Joker gets word about the wedding between the Bat and the Cat, and he’s not happy. With the wedding story arc reaching its climax in BATMAN #50 on sale July 4, The Joker will be that one wedding guest most likely to speak now and not hold his peace at all.
Anyone think that something F’ed up is going to happen to, well, F up Bruce and Selina’s nuptials?
ANYWAY…
When I was a kid, I bought DC SUPER-STARS #17 back in 1977. In it, we learn about the “secret origin” of The Huntress — the daughter of the Golden Age Batman/Bruce Wayne and Catwoman/Selina Kyle. For those who don’t know (SPOILER ALERT!), the 1939/Golden Age Batman and Catwoman (yes, she first appeared in 1940, I KNOW) end up getting married. Both give up their costumed escapades, and Bruce ends up becoming Gotham City’s police commissioner. But just when things are super awesome and have been for quite a while, tragedy hits the Wayne family yet again.
Now, 41 years later — especially with The Joker involved — I got to wonder if Bruce Wayne is going to be allowed to be happy.
If not in the comics, at least the poor bastard got a happy ending in THE DARK KNIGHT TRILOGY.
