Matt Reeves and THE BATMAN UNIVERSE ain’t got canceled (despite what the grifters, bullshitters, and clickbait headlines have said).

Per DEADLINE, THE BATMAN director Matt Reeves has become the first filmmaker given an overall first-look film deal since Warner Bros Pictures Group Co-Chairs/CEOs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy were hired by Warner Bros. Discovery chief David Zaslav head up Warner Bros. Pictures. Also, Reeves has re-upped with the Warner Bros. Television Group and Chairman Channing Dungey, where he is also working on THE BATMAN spinoff series THE PENGUIN with Colin Farrell.

According to the trade, Reeves is spending so much time on film and TV projects relating to THE BATMAN franchise that it made perfect sense for him to call Warner Bros his home De Luca and Abdy hope to see him grow into the kind of cornerstone filmmaker that Todd Phillips has become from the studio (THE HANGOVER and JOKER franchises), and what Clint Eastwood has been forever at the studio.

“Making this legendary studio my home is a dream,” said Reeves. “I am so excited to be working with Mike, Pam, and Channing and our teams to bring captivating stories I am truly passionate about to the big and small screen.”

Someone like Matt, we’ll buy for him whatever he wants to do,” De Luca said. “We’re making an investment for whatever Matt feels a pull toward, in the Batman universe and otherwise. He has an open invitation to go wherever his interests take him. We’ll lean into whatever Matt wants to do. In terms of the writer/directors out there working in this very elevated genre space, with everything Matt’s done…he’s in a class by himself.”

Reeves is currently writing the script for THE BATMAN sequel along with Mattson Tomlin.

Bill "Jett" Ramey
Bill “Jett” Ramey isn’t just a Batman fan — he’s one of the founding fathers of the online Batman community. As the creator and Editor-in-Chief of Batman-On-Film.com, the original and longest-running Batman news and commentary site, Jett helped carve the very bedrock of modern fan internet press. If there is a Mount Rushmore of this stuff, his face is already up there — sunglasses on, arms crossed, probably telling someone to calm down. A lifelong Dark Knight disciple, Jett has spent decades championing filmmaker‑driven Batman stories, cutting through fanboy noise with a Texas‑sized dose of honesty, and keeping the conversation smart, civil, and drama‑free. He’s the BOF Godfather — the guy who was here before the hashtags, before the clickbait, before the algorithms… and he’s still here, still talking Batman, still calling it straight. When he steps out of Gotham, Jett is pure Texas. He bleeds Dallas Cowboys blue, blasts Elvis and rock ’n’ roll, and has a deep appreciation for cold beer, dive bars, and Texas Longhorns football. He works out, he cooks, and he can grill like a man who’s earned the right to say “don’t assume” when he tells you he lives in the great state of Texas. He shares that home with his wife — “Announcer Rachel” — and their dogs: Gracelin the Labradoodle and Presley, a rescue pup named after the King himself.
