UPDATED 6/24/25: James Gunn was asked about the script being turned in this past Monday (6/23/25) on Threads and said, “It’s not true.”

Look, this means nothing. We know that THE BATMAN: PART II is going to start filming early next year in the UK, and James Gunn has repeatedly said that the film (as well as Matt Reeves’ THE BATMAN EPIC CRIME SAGA) is “important” to Warner Bros./DC Studios and is not canceled.

So, I suggest that fans stop expecting a big press release announcing that Reeves has turned in the script, because that’s probably not going to happen.  At some point soon, we’ll start getting news in the trades about casting and other pre-production updates, and then you know they’ll be filming.

R-E-L-A-X and enjoy the ride…and yeah, get off of Matt Reeves’ nuts! 😆

Via PUCK (by way of WORLD OF REEL), the script for THE BATMAN: PART II is set to be delivered to Warner Bros./DC Studios on Monday (June 23, 2025), and the studio is eyeing a January 2026 start of filming.

The report notes that while Matt Reeves is a perfectionist and a meticulous filmmaker, there was a legitimate reason why the film’s release date was pushed from 2026 to October 1, 2027 (and I won’t delve into that here on BOF because it’s none of my business or yours).  Additionally, PUCK notes that the bigwigs at Warner Bros. were growing a bit impatient with Reeves; however, DC Studios co-boss James Gunn has defended Reeves publicly many times via social media and recent interviews (“Get off of Matt’s nuts!” – James Gunn).

Look, am I anxious for THE BATMAN: PART II?  Hell yeah.  But here’s how I look at it…

If there were no SAG and WGA strikes, and if Reeves didn’t have to deal with what he had to deal with, then the film would be coming out in 4 months.  That’s cool and all, but that means all the fun surrounding the film would just about be over.  Now we still have a little over 2 full years to enjoy the lead-up to its release on 10/1/2027.  And look, I’m in no hurry for time to fly by nowadays, trust me. – Bill “Jett” Ramey
