Joaquin Phoenix’s version of The Joker — from the film, um, JOKER — is featured on the cover of Italian magazine Il Venerdi.  Check it out…

Phoenix also speaks about his role and the film for the first time.  “It’s not a superhero movie, [The Joker is not a’ supervillain or a human being with special powers,” said the actor — something that BOF has been saying for people to expect before seeing the movie.

He also explains how he came up with his version of The Joker’s laugh.  “I watched videos of people suffering from pathological laughter, a neurological disorder that makes individuals laugh uncontrollably,” said Phoenix.  (I wonder if he carries cards with him when in public to hand to people explaining his condition? 🤔 )

As I’ve said before, JOKER isn’t going to be for everyone — especially those going in expecting it to be a traditional “comic book movie,” can’t get over the fact that Batman isn’t in it, or think it is/must be connected to THE BATMAN (it ain’t).  I don’t know if it’ll be for me, but I am intrigued and excited and I’ll wait to pass judgment once I see the movie in late September.
