Robert Pattinson (Finally) Talks About Being Cast as The Batman

In a new interview with VARIETY, the latest Batman on film — Robert Pattinson — talks a bit about being cast as Batman in director Matt Reeves’ upcoming THE BATMAN.  Here are a few blurbs:

On his name being leaked as the new Batman…

When that thing leaked, I was f—ing furious.  Everyone was so upset. Everyone was panicking from my team. I sort of thought that had blown up the whole thing.

On the (ridiculous) “backlash” over his Batman casting…

To be honest, it was less vitriolic than I was expecting.  It’s much more fun when you’re an underdog. There’s no expectation of you.

He says he was had been interested in playing Batman for a while…

I’d had Batman in my mind for a while.  It’s such an absurd thing to say. I sort of had an idea to do it, and I’d been prodding Matt. He didn’t accept any prods. I kept asking to meet him.

On putting on the Batsuit for his screentest…

I put it on. I remember saying to Matt [Reeves], ‘It does feel quite transformative!’ He was like, ‘I would hope it does! You’re literally in the Batsuit.’ You do feel very powerful immediately. And it’s pretty astonishing, something that is incredibly difficult to get into, so the ritual of getting into it is pretty humiliating. You’ve got five people trying to shove you into something. Once you’ve got it on, it’s like, ‘Yeah, I feel strong, I feel tough, even though I had to have someone squeezing my butt cheeks into the legs.’

On getting the news that he got the gig — while he was on the set of Christopher Nolan’s new movie…

I was absolutely relieved when Matt called.  It’s so bizarre [that I was on Nolan’s set].  I was like, ‘What a coincidence this is happening. It’s absolutely crazy.  I was talking [to Chris Nolan] about things to do with the Batsuit…how to get more movements in it.

Good stuff!  It’s nice to know that he really wanted this role and to play Batman.  I’m very much looking forward to this film and for RP’s performance.  Hell, the dude is already mapping out and practicing how he’s going to play certain scenes!
