I’m a HUGE fan of the original, 1939, DETECTIVE COMICS aesthetic of Batman.
I’ve also said in the past that it would be cool if a Batman film was actually set in the year 1939. (For all you Batman newbies, that’s the year that Batman first appeared after being created by Bob Kane with Bill Finger.)
Yes, I KNOW that there was a bit of that “look,” if you will, in Tim Burton’s BATMAN back in 1989. But I’m talking about setting it in a full-blown, pre-WWII, “realistic” Gotham City.
In doing so, the film(s) would be something new, fresh, and bold — don’t you think?

Yes, his dome is too high and it looks a bit like Megamind, but other than that, it’s cool.
And yep, I’m totally down with Jake Gyllenhaal as the next Batman on film – regardless of the era/year of the film’s setting. The dude is an ACTOR first and foremost, so I know he’ll immerse himself in the role completely – kinda like the guy whose initials are “CB” and beat him out for leading role in BATMAN BEGINS back in the early 2000’s.
