In other words, the 4 most important “Batman characters” in Batman’s 81-year history…other than, well, Batman.
Make sure to check out BOF’s previous installments in this series…
Without further ado, here’s BOF’s Mt. Rushmore of Batman characters by yours truly…and maybe a few runners up as well.
Not on is The Joker the greatest comic book villain of all-time, he’s also one of the greatest villains in the history of literature, film, and pop culture.
Alfred in the man who essentially raised Bruce Wayne as well as going on to become The Batman’s most trusted confidant, caretaker, and partner in justice…the HAMMERS of JUSTICE!
ROBIN (DICK GRAYSON)
Yes, not just “Robin,” but the Dick Grayson version of the character specifically.
DG was the first Robin — the only Robin from 1940 to 1983 — and remains the most recognized version of the Boy Wonder amongst the mainstream and pop culture.
Only Robin John Blake from THE DARK KNIGHT RISES rivals Mr. Grayson.
Sgt. Gordon…Lt. Gordon…Commissioner Gordon…Jim Gordon…Jim!
Batman’s most trusted alley outside Alfred, Robin, and the rest of the “Batman Family” more than deserves to be on this Batman Mt. Rushmore.
Not only has Jim Gordon been with Batman from the beginning in DETECTIVE COMICS #27 in 1939, but because someone needs to fire up the Batsignal and have those rooftop meetings with the Caped Crusader!
Notice that it’s “runner up” this time and not plural.
That’s because the only other Bat-character that’s worthy of being on the Mt. Rushmore of Batman Characters is this one…
The love of Batman’s life — and Bruce Wayne too — since BATMAN #1 in 1940.
Hell, take Grayson off this Mt. Rushmore and replace him with Selina Kyle!
