The December 2019 BOF Mailbag #1

2159

Welcome to the first BOF Mailbag for December of 2019. Thanks for all your questions, so let’s get to ’em!

Oh yeah, I’ll do another in between Christmas and New Year’s Eve, so be looking for my call for questions. And remember…

#TheBatmanIsComing!

Have you heard about new plans for any more “Black Label” films such as JOKER?

JETT SAYS: I haven’t heard anything specific, but yes, I do.  However, I don’t think they are going to call these type of films like JOKER by any sort of label or specific brand.  I believe that since they aren’t concerned about maintaining a shared cinematic universe any longer, they are simply going to make “DC Films.”

What was Batman’s favorite Christmas gift?

JETT SAYS: Ace, The Bat-Hound.

[Regarding Two-Face in THE BATMAN], Do you feel as if the character is better off not featuring as an extended cameo/minor role in a movie where arguably lesser villains are given the spotlight?

JETT SAYS: Arturo, I had to alter your question a bit because I can’t publicly answer the first part of it.  I’ll answer it this way…

Two-Face was supposed to be in THE BATMAN at one point; as of now, maybe he is or maybe he isn’t.  However, both Harvey Dent and Two-Face are (is?) such an important part of the Batman mythos — and arguably Batman’s #2 villain only after The Joker — that I certainly expect them (him?) to show up in one of Reeves’ Batman movies.

JETT SAYS: Yes, there are more — though I’m not sure how many.  I know of at least one and maybe 2 others.  We about to find out very soon!

JETT SAYS: HA!  I’ve received more Batman-related gifts as an adult than I ever got as a kid!

Top 10 favorite DC movies, theatrical releases only.

JETT SAYS: Oh man, tough one…kinda.  In no particular order…

SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE, SUPERMAN II, MAN OF STEEL, BATMAN ’89, BATMAN BEGINS, THE DARK KNIGHT, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE, MASK OF THE PHANTASM, WONDER WOMAN.

What are some of the best Batman Christmas stories?

JETT SAYS: BATMAN: NOEL in the comics and “Christmas With The Joker” from BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES.  And…

BATMAN RETURNS sucks. 😉🤣

Patty Jenkins said WW84 is pretty much done now, six months from release. Does this lend credence to the theories that the alternate version of the film-which-shall-not-be-named was near complete before they switched gears?

JETT SAYS: Not at all.  JUSTICE LEAGUE finished filming in late 2016 and gears were switched in early 2017.  Remember, WONDER WOMAN 1984 was originally going to be released in late 2019 and was then moved in June of 2020 to give it a Summer release like its predecessor.

JETT SAYS: I’m not sure. Perhaps it’s not a totally done deal as of yet — that’s my only guess.

Cast and characters in your BATMAN AND THE OUTSIDERS. Let’s hear it!

JETT SAYS: Batman, Katana, Geo-Force, Halo, Looker, Black Lightning, and Metamorpho.  Old school, man!

Favorite 3 Villains from BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES?

JETT SAYS: The Joker, Mr. Freeze, and Ra’s Al Ghul.

Do you think [THE BATMAN] will have more of a noir feel to it? Also, do you think it’ll be more true to the comics, with Bruce narrating more than the storyline?

JETT SAYS: Matt Reeves has said that THE BATMAN will have a noir vibe to it, so there you go.  As far as whether or not Batman will narrate the film, I have no idea, but I don’t think that’s likely.

What kind of Batmobile do you think we’ll see? Militarised like Bale/Affleck, or stylized like Burton/Schumacher?

JETT SAYS: I’ve heard it was going to be muscle car-like.  Take that for what you will.

Will part of the movie be set in Arkham still?

JETT SAYS: I highly suspect that Arkham will make an appearance in THE BATMAN.

JETT SAYS: That’s certainly the hope, and I personally think it’s going to happen.
