Per VARIETY.COM, Michael De Luca will produce SUICIDE SQUAD 2 will join the project as producer. Charles Roven (THE DARK KNIGHT TRILOGY) will remain the lead producer on the film so says the trade.

Gavin O’Connor will write and direct the sequel, which will star Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, and Jared Leto as The Joker.

My thoughts…

Cool.  As long as this is part of the “soft reboot/restructuring” of LADCOF (“Live Action DC On Film” — it’s a THING), I’m fine with it.

Look, I was a HUGE supporter of the original SUICIDE SQUAD movie, and I kinda-sorta liked it upon my initial viewing in New York during the film’s junket.   Now, do I like it as much as I did upon my first look at it back then?  Nope — it frankly gets worse upon each viewing (just like BATMAN v SUPERMAN).  BUT…

There are some really good stuff in that movie.  Specifically, the cast which pretty much saves the film from being a total abomination.  So, I have not problem — and I’m kinda looking forward to seeing — more of Will Smith, Margot Robbie, and Jared Leto as Deadshot, Harley Quinn, and The Joker (and yes, I like Leto’s Joker — come at me bro!) in a sequel.

Look, I’m already on board with this film as I think the whole concept of the “Suicide Squad” is cool as hell.  In fact, I’m very much interested/excited to see what DC villains are going to be part of the next team…though I’m pretty sure that Slipknot isn’t on the table.

As the creator and Editor-in-Chief of Batman-On-Film.com, the original and longest-running Batman news and commentary site, Jett helped carve the very bedrock of modern fan internet press. If there is a Mount Rushmore of this stuff, his face is already up there — sunglasses on, arms crossed, probably telling someone to calm down. A lifelong Dark Knight disciple, Jett has spent decades championing filmmaker‑driven Batman stories, cutting through fanboy noise with a Texas‑sized dose of honesty, and keeping the conversation smart, civil, and drama‑free. He’s the BOF Godfather — the guy who was here before the hashtags, before the clickbait, before the algorithms… and he’s still here, still talking Batman, still calling it straight. When he steps out of Gotham, Jett is pure Texas. He bleeds Dallas Cowboys blue, blasts Elvis and rock ’n’ roll, and has a deep appreciation for cold beer, dive bars, and Texas Longhorns football. He works out, he cooks, and he can grill like a man who’s earned the right to say “don’t assume” when he tells you he lives in the great state of Texas.
