Over a decade ago when he was barely in his 20s, Armie Hammer was cast to play Bruce Wayne/Batman (who was going to be portrayed as “psychotic” per Hammer) in director George Miller’s JUSTICE LEAGUE MORTAL. Due to a writer’s strike (and Christopher Nolan’s displeasure about the project, allegedly), the film was canceled right before filming was to begin in Australia.
However, now a much more seasoned actor — and one who has gotten a lot of critical acclaim for his performances — Hammer could possibly get a second chance to play The Dark Knight…if someone would simply ask him.

“Yeah, that’s the problem: I’ve never been approached,” the actor told USA TODAY while doing press for HOTEL MUMBAI. “But if I was,” he continued, “I would jump at the opportunity. You can only say ‘no’ or ‘yes’ to projects you’re offered.”
While Hammer hasn’t been offered the part in Matt Reeves’ upcoming THE BATMAN, the word on the street is that there’s a “wish list” of actors that the studio/director like and Armie is on it, ahem, allegedly.

Personally, I’d love to see him get the role. He’s a very fine actor — which is an absolute must — but it also physically suited for the part.
With filming on THE BATMAN beginning late this year or in early 2020, I figure we’ll find out soon enough the identity of the next Batman on film.
Oh yeah, AH was asked if he had a favorite Batman on film…
They’re all such different animals, which is great. Michael Keaton was obviously my first Batman, but the Christian Bale version was also absolutely incredible. But no one will top the Batman nipples that George Clooney had!
